Light and Darkness

"And this is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light, because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." John 3:19-21 (NIV)
"Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But every-thing exposed by the light becomes visible." Ephesians 5:11-13 (NIV)
There is a great theme in the Bible about light. As Christ Jesus talked to Nicodemus,He drew the contrast between light and darkness and related it to good vs evil and man's attitude toward both. When Christ came to the world He identified Himself as the "Light of the world". (John 8:12) Some men would come to the light being lovers of truth. Some men would refuse to come to the light because they loved their evil deeds and wanted to perform them in darkness.
When it comes to exposing (reproving) deeds of darkness, we are not to spend our time talking about them, but we are to allow the light of the truth do make them known. We do not have to shout the wrongness of evil deeds from the housetop. That is a waste of time and energy. What we are to shout from the housetop is the truth of the Word of God, which is such a contrast to evil that evil deeds are made known. Opposites are easy to see. We are not to talk about the shameful things done by evil men in darkness. We are to simply hold up the light, which expels darkness.
It is a blessed thing to be a son of light, as Christ Jesus called us. Where Christ is, there is no darkness. When we arrive at the heavenly city, New Jerusalem, there we will never again experience darkness. "The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever."Revelation 21:23; 22:5 (NIV)

To God be the glory, for we shall live in His glory!
